I started helping in the office and pantry in the mid-90's and became part of the staff in 1999. My official job description is "Juli's helper" and I now spend most of my time working with the database. It's an honor to be a helper and not in charge of anything.

"What is the database?" you ask. This is how VNC keeps current with the 3000 individuals that call this their home church so that we can minister to them. We don't want anyone to feel like they are just a number. Each person has an identity and is cared about. When a pastor needs an address or telephone number, it comes from the database. The secretaries can prepare mailing labels for a specific Small Group of people from the database to inform them of upcoming events they may be interested in. With today's technology, more departments are keeping in touch with their Groups using email. This can all be done in the database.

Who am I? I like working on the computer and doing detailed tasks. When I first started helping Juli in the office, I didn't know how to operate any of the office machines here. Although I had been a legal secretary and worked in a Purchasing Department at a corporation before, I had been out of the workplace for so long that even the telephones were not the same! Slowly I learned new things and gained my confidence with new jobs. This has opened an entire new way for me to serve Jesus. I work on Mondays and whenever needed. Again, this is an awesome opportunity for me to be able to serve our Lord and the rewards from working with the staff are equally awesome.
